I started collecting ball pythons in 2010 and shortly after I discovered all the different morphs that were available. All the different colors and patterns. I soon became obsessed and found a couple morphs I had to have. I quickly realized that much of what I wanted was out of my price range.
Then came the idea to upgrade. There were two ways I could see myself doing this. Take on a second job and get instant gratification or take the long hard route and breed up for myself. Not knowing anything about the breeding cycle of these beautiful animals I had to start more research and attempting to network with other local breeders.
Many times I was asked why I wanted to breed when there were already so many people out there doing it and the competition in the market is crazy. At the time my only answer was because I think I can. In April of 2012 I hatched out two clutches. The first one to hatch was from a Pastel X Normal and it was a good experience. The other clutch was from a possible het Albino X a proven het Albino. This was the clutch that did it in for me! It was only five eggs but when they pipped and two were Albinos. I cant explain the feeling when you place two snakes together and help create something that looks nothing like what you started with. At that point I knew I could do this.
This is my hobby of choice and I wont lie to anyone, sometimes it isn't easy but every clutch laid reminds me why I enjoy the stress the rest of the year has laid on me.
